Unnecessary Remake of the Day: Steve Kloves, the man who penned the entirety of the Harry Potter series for the big screen, is in talks to write, direct, and produce a live-action remake of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. Disney’s 1994 live-action version, with Stephen Sommers directing and Jason Scott Lee as Mowgli, certainly leaves room for improvement — but really, Disney’s terrific animated version should be plenty Jungle Book for everyone. If the project goes forward, it will be Klove’s third film the helm, following The Fabulous Baker Boys and Flesh And Bone.

I absolutely adore the Disney animation of The Jungle Book, but considering how far it strayed from the original story I’m not completely against the idea of another attempt to adapt it to a live-action movie. But if they cut it down and make it bizarrely simple like Disney did, I won’t be impressed. Why would you even want to stay from the book?
